這支童謠的靈感應該是來自阿加莎·克裏斯蒂的小說《無人生還》，這本書的原名是《十個小黑人》，後來涉嫌種族歧視曾經改為《十個小印第安人》，但仍是政治不正確。最後才改為現在的《無人生還》。小說名字改掉後，書裏的童謠也被改成過“十個小印第安人”、“十個小兵人”。小說描寫了八個原本素不相識的人被U·N·歐文夫婦邀請到德文郡沿海的士兵島之後，壹個壹個離奇死亡的故事。
